The Lyon Airport to Risoul route in detail
The drive leaves Lyon Airport on the A48 to Grenoble, then the D1091 up the Romanche valley and over the Col du Lautaret to Briançon. From Briançon the N94 runs south down the Durance valley through Saint-Crépin to Guillestre, which is the junction for Risoul and the Queyras.
Guillestre is where the valley road ends and the mountain section begins. The climb from there up to Risoul on the D902 takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on conditions — a winding ascent that gains altitude the whole way, and the part of the journey where knowing the road actually matters.
The route stays in France throughout, so no border crossing is involved. The Col du Lautaret is kept open through the winter; when heavy snowfall closes it, the alternative runs south from Grenoble on the A51 to Gap and then up the N94 through Embrun to Guillestre, which adds time but avoids the high ground altogether.
This is a long transfer — 3h 33min of driving, and worth planning around. A private vehicle means one journey with no changes and no waiting, but if your flight lands late in the evening you will arrive well into the night.
