The journey starts with the winding descent from the Avoriaz plateau down to Morzine, then the D902 through Les Gets and Taninges to Cluses — the mountain section of the route, and the part that holds snow well after the valley roads have been cleared. At Cluses the fast road picks up: the A40 down the Arve valley, then past Annecy on the motorway to Grenoble Airport. On peak Saturdays the D902 carries the changeover traffic of the whole valley at once, so we plan around it rather than hope it clears.
