The drive leaves Grenoble Airport on the A41 north towards Chambéry, then the A43 and N90 up the Tarentaise valley through Moûtiers to Aime. La Plagne is reached by leaving the N90 at Aime and climbing away from the valley floor through Macôt-la-Plagne to the resort villages. The narrow section through Moûtiers is the known bottleneck on Saturday changeover days.
Aime is where the fast road ends and the mountain section begins. The climb from there up to La Plagne takes 30 to 50 minutes depending on conditions — a winding ascent that gains altitude the whole way, and the part of the journey where knowing the road actually matters.
