Route overview
Les Arcs is built in tiers up the mountainside above Bourg-Saint-Maurice, from Arc 1600 near the valley floor to Arc 2000 close to the glacier, and the road from Turin has to account for that spread as well as the Vanoise massif that rules out any direct crossing. The journey runs west through the Fréjus tunnel, down to Albertville, then back up the full length of the Tarentaise valley before the final switchback climb to whichever level of Les Arcs you’ve booked.
Because the resort connects to the valley by funicular as well as road, plenty of visitors default to trains and transfers with a changeover partway. Over a drive this long, that only adds friction.
