Route overview

Turin Airport sits on the plain below the Alps, and the drive to Courmayeur climbs steadily through the Aosta Valley before arriving at the foot of Mont Blanc. It’s one of the most scenic approaches to the Italian side of the massif, and one of the most popular routes for skiers and summer hikers flying into northern Italy.

Rather than juggling trains, connecting buses, or a rental car in unfamiliar mountain conditions, a private transfer takes you door-to-door in a single, comfortable vehicle — with a driver who already knows the road, the tunnel, and the resort’s drop-off points.

Your private transfer

Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall at Turin Airport with a name board, ready to help with luggage, ski bags, and car seats if needed. The route runs north along the A5 motorway through the Aosta Valley, with the peaks of the Graian Alps visible for most of the drive, before the final approach into Courmayeur. You’re taken directly to your hotel, chalet, or apartment door — no transfers, no waiting rooms, no shared stops.

The Turin Airport to Courmayeur route in detail

The drive leaves Turin Airport on the A5 Aosta Valley motorway, the artery running north from Turin through Ivrea and Aosta towards the Mont Blanc tunnel. The A5 carries everything heading up the valley, and each resort turns off it at a different point — Châtillon for the Valtournenche and Cervinia, Aosta for the Great St Bernard road — while Courmayeur sits at the far end of the motorway itself.

Courmayeur is unusual on this corridor in that the fast road runs almost the whole way. Past Aosta the A5 continues through Morgex and Pré-Saint-Didier and ends at Courmayeur, by the Italian mouth of the Mont Blanc tunnel, so the last stretch into the resort is short rather than a long mountain climb. On this route it is traffic on a changeover day, not gradient, that adds the time.

Winter driving on this route

In the Aosta Valley, snow tyres or chains are compulsory by law from 15 October to 15 April — a wider window than the French rule, and one that catches out drivers crossing between the two. Our vehicles run on winter tyres with chains carried as standard, so the driver fits them where the road demands it instead of joining the queue on the valley floor.

Italy sets its own rule: snow tyres or chains are compulsory from 15 October to 15 April, a longer window than the French one. The A5 is among the best-maintained motorways in Italy and it runs the full length of the valley to Courmayeur at 1,224 m, so very little of this transfer is spent on ordinary mountain road — but snow on the upper valley around Morgex and Pré-Saint-Didier still slows the traffic in front of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a transfer from Turin Airport to Courmayeur cost?

From €254 for a standard private transfer for up to 3 passengers. Larger vehicles, up to an 8-seat minibus, cost more; the booking form shows the price for each. That is the weekday rate; Saturday and peak dates are priced higher. The price is calculated on the real road distance to your exact address — get your exact quote in 2 minutes.

How long does the transfer from Turin Airport to Courmayeur take?

The drive covers around 150 km and takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes under normal conditions, though winter weather in the Aosta Valley can occasionally add extra time.

Is the price fixed in advance?

Yes. You’re quoted a fixed, distance-based price before booking, calculated from your exact pickup and drop-off address — there are no surprise charges on arrival.

What happens if my flight into Turin is delayed?

Your flight is tracked automatically, so your driver will adjust the pickup time to match your actual landing — you won’t be charged extra or left waiting.

Can the driver carry ski equipment?

Yes, ski and snowboard bags are carried free of charge for every passenger on this route.

Do I need snow chains for a transfer to Courmayeur?

Not for our transfers — the vehicle is already equipped. In the Aosta Valley, snow tyres or chains are compulsory by law from 15 October to 15 April — a wider window than the French rule, and one that catches out drivers crossing between the two. We carry chains on every winter transfer and the driver fits them when the road requires it.

Why does the route go through the Aosta Valley?

Because there is no way around it. The Aosta Valley is the only road corridor to Courmayeur from the Italian side, and every vehicle heading up to the resort follows it. It is also where peak-Saturday traffic concentrates, which is why the same journey can take noticeably longer on a changeover day.

How much of the journey is mountain road?

Very little. The A5 motorway runs the length of the Aosta Valley and ends at Courmayeur itself, so the drive stays on fast road almost to the door. Snow and weekend traffic in the upper valley affect the timing more than any climb does.
