Les 3 Vallées is the largest linked ski area in the world: 600 km of marked pistes plus 50 km of ski routes, 159 lifts, and skiing from 1,100 m up to 3,230 m without taking your skis off. Five resorts share it — Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville — and four airports serve it.

Every one of those twenty airport-to-resort journeys ends the same way: fast road up the Tarentaise valley as far as Moûtiers, then a mountain climb of 30 to 60 minutes. Which airport you fly into changes the first part a great deal and the second part not at all. This page puts all twenty side by side so you can see it.

Distances and journey times are door-to-door road figures in normal winter conditions. Prices are the standard weekday per-vehicle rate for up to 8 passengers; a booking to an exact address is priced on the real road distance, so an address at the top of a resort and one at the bottom are not charged the same. Which airport should you fly into?

Chambéry is by a wide margin the closest — 104 to 125 km, and under an hour and a half to every resort. It is also the cheapest per vehicle across all five resorts. It is the smallest airport, with a short winter-only schedule, so the flights have to exist on your dates.
Geneva is the practical default: the widest choice of flights, and 2 to 2½ hours to any of the five. Factor in the border. Since April 2026 every non-EU passport is registered biometrically on arrival, and Geneva queued for up to three hours on the peak ski Saturday of February 2026 — see our EES and ETIAS guide.
Lyon has good long-haul and domestic connections and an easy motorway run east. The A43 and A430 towards Albertville are toll motorways for most of the distance, and those tolls sit inside the price rather than being added at the end.
Grenoble is a charter airport that fills up on winter Saturdays with UK ski traffic; the road north through Chambéry to Albertville makes it a similar drive to Geneva.

The five resorts

Courchevel — 1,850 m

Not one village but four, strung up a single mountain road: Saint-Bon at 1,100 m, Le Praz at 1,300 m, Courchevel Village at 1,550 m and Courchevel 1850 at the top. The address matters more here than in any other Three Valleys resort, because the climb from Moûtiers is a continuous 30 to 45 minutes and each village is a further stage up it. The road is wide, well maintained and cleared as a priority, but it is a mountain road in winter and we drive it in winter-equipped vehicles.

Méribel — 1,450 m (Mottaret 1,750 m)

The middle valley, and the one most people mean when they say they are skiing the Three Valleys, because from Méribel you can reach both of the others in a morning. The approach leaves Moûtiers on the D915 and then the D90 through Brides-les-Bains and Les Allues. Méribel-Mottaret, 300 m higher and further up the valley, is a genuinely different drop-off — worth putting the exact chalet address on the booking rather than just “Méribel”.

Val Thorens — 2,300 m

The highest resort in Europe, at the head of the Belleville valley, and the reason the Three Valleys can promise snow in a thin season. It is also the longest climb of the five: from Moûtiers the road runs up through Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Menuires and keeps going, 45 to 60 minutes of continuous ascent. Val Thorens is pedestrianised, so drop-off is at the car park or the designated point nearest your accommodation rather than at the door — tell us the residence name when you book and we will get you to the right one.

Les Menuires — 1,850 m

Two thirds of the way up the Belleville valley, below Val Thorens and above Saint-Martin. It has the best ski-in ski-out value in the area and a long, spread-out layout — La Croisette, Reberty, Les Bruyères and Preyerand are several minutes’ drive apart, and a driver who is told “Les Menuires” and nothing more can leave you a hard walk from your door with the week’s luggage. The exact residence name is worth thirty seconds at booking.

Saint-Martin-de-Belleville — 1,450 m

The old village of the Belleville valley: stone and wood, a baroque church, and lifts straight into the same 600 km of piste that Val Thorens sells at nearly twice the altitude. It is the shortest drive of the five from Chambéry — 104 km, the closest Three Valleys journey we run. Quiet in the evening, which is either the point or the drawback depending on the group.

Moûtiers on a Saturday

Everything funnels through one town. Moûtiers is where the fast road up the Tarentaise ends and the five mountain roads begin, and on a winter Saturday every arriving and departing chalet guest in the Three Valleys — plus Tignes, Val d’Isère and La Plagne further up the same valley — passes through it within the same few hours.

The worst window is roughly 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday. A journey that takes 2h15 midweek can take an hour longer, occasionally more after fresh snow.
An early or late Saturday flight is worth real money. Landing before 09:00 or after 17:00 puts you through Moûtiers outside the crush.
A Sunday arrival is the quiet secret. Many chalets and apartments change over Saturday to Saturday, but if your accommodation allows a Sunday start, the roads are empty and midweek pricing applies.
There is no alternative route. Sat-nav will occasionally propose Col de la Madeleine, Col de l’Iseran or the Cormet de Roselend as a way round. All are closed for the winter. Our drivers know this; a hire car’s navigation may not.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport is closest to the Three Valleys?

Chambéry, comfortably. It is 104 km to Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, 110 km to Méribel and 125 km to Val Thorens — every Three Valleys resort is under an hour and forty minutes away. Geneva is roughly an hour further but has far more flights.

How long is the transfer from Geneva to the Three Valleys?

Between 2h08 and 2h30 depending on the resort: Saint-Martin 2h08, Méribel 2h10, Courchevel 2h15, Les Menuires 2h17, Val Thorens 2h30. Add up to an hour for a Saturday in high season.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle, for up to 8 passengers. A price of €237 is €237 whether one person travels or eight. Shared shuttle operators quote per person, which is cheaper for one or two travellers and more expensive for a group — we set out the arithmetic in our Geneva transfer price guide.

Why do Saturday transfers cost more?

Saturday is changeover day for almost every chalet and apartment in the Tarentaise. Demand triples, the Moûtiers road slows to a crawl, and a vehicle that would complete three journeys midweek completes two. If your dates are flexible, a midweek or Sunday transfer is materially cheaper — your quote shows the exact fare for your date.

Can you drop us at a specific chalet or residence?

Yes, that is the point of a private transfer. Give the exact address at booking. The one exception is Val Thorens, which is pedestrianised — there we drop at the car park or designated point closest to your residence.

Can one vehicle drop off in two resorts?

Yes. Split drop-offs within the Three Valleys — Méribel then Courchevel, for example — can be arranged at booking. Give us both addresses.

Do you carry skis and snowboards?

Yes, at no extra charge, along with your luggage. Tell us how many sets when you book so we send a vehicle with the right load space.

Are the roads difficult in winter?

They are mountain roads and they are cleared as a priority, because five resorts depend on them. The climb from Moûtiers is 30 to 60 minutes of continuous ascent with hairpins. Our vehicles carry winter equipment as a matter of course and our drivers work these roads all season.

Do you run transfers in summer?

Yes. The Three Valleys are a major cycling and hiking destination in July and August, and we operate year round. Bikes are carried by arrangement — tell us how many when you book.
