Grenoble Airport to Flaine Transfer — Route Information

The Grenoble Airport to Flaine route in detail

The drive leaves Grenoble Airport on the motorway north past Annecy to Cluses, leaving it there for the D106. From Cluses the D106 climbs through Arâches-la-Frasse and Les Carroz d’Arâches, then carries on up the exposed upper section to Flaine. It is a single mountain road serving the whole Grand Massif side of the valley, so a slow vehicle ahead sets the pace for everyone behind it.

Cluses is where the fast road ends and the mountain section begins. The climb from there up to Flaine takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on conditions — a winding ascent that gains altitude the whole way, and the part of the journey where knowing the road actually matters.

Winter driving on this route

Under the Loi Montagne, vehicles travelling to French Alpine resorts must carry winter tyres or snow chains between 1 November and 31 March. This is enforced, not advisory. Our vehicles run on winter tyres with chains carried as standard, so the driver fits them where the road demands it instead of joining the queue on the climb above Les Carroz.

Chains are needed on the D106 more often than most visitors expect, and fitting them adds ten to fifteen minutes to the journey. The last stretch above Les Carroz is the highest and most exposed part of the road, and it holds snow when the valley floor is clear. Satellite navigation will sometimes route over cols that are closed all winter — the Col de la Madeleine, Col de l’Iseran and Cormet de Roselend among them. Drivers who run these roads daily do not follow a screen into them.

How much does a transfer from Grenoble Airport to Flaine cost?

From €285 for a private vehicle carrying up to 8 passengers — €35.63 per person when the vehicle is full. That is the weekday rate; Saturday and peak dates are priced higher. The price is calculated on the real road distance to your exact address — get your exact quote in 2 minutes.

Do I need snow chains for a transfer to Flaine?

Not for our transfers — the vehicle is already equipped. Under the Loi Montagne, vehicles travelling to French Alpine resorts must carry winter tyres or snow chains between 1 November and 31 March. This is enforced, not advisory. We carry chains on every winter transfer and the driver fits them when the road requires it.

Why does the route go through Cluses?

Because there is no way around it. Cluses is the gateway to this valley, and every vehicle heading to Flaine passes through it. It is also where peak-Saturday traffic concentrates.

Is the transfer private?

Yes. The vehicle is yours alone, door to door, with no shared stops and no waiting for other passengers to arrive.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Your flight is tracked and the driver adjusts to the actual landing time, at no extra charge. You do not need to rebook or call ahead.
