Shared or private ski transfer from Geneva? The cost per person, worked out

A shared transfer is sold per seat. A private transfer is sold per vehicle. That single difference decides which one is cheaper for you: the more people in your group, the less a private vehicle costs per head, while the coach seat costs the same whether you are two or eight.

The short version: on a weekday, a private vehicle from Geneva Airport to Val Thorens starts from €237 (≈ £204). Split four ways that is about £51 each – about the same as a coach seat (£49). Split eight ways it is about £25.50 each.

Saturdays and peak dates are priced higher. Shared: one-way adult seat on the large-coach service most UK skiers use, from its published 2026/27 price list, checked on 21 September 2026. Across three operators we checked that day, shared seats on this corridor were advertised from about £36 to £95 per person.

What the per-seat price does not show

Days. The coach services we checked run at weekends only. If you fly midweek, a shared seat is usually not an option at all – and midweek is exactly when private prices are lowest.
Door to door. A coach drops you at a bus stop or the resort coach station; you then carry skis and bags, or pay for a local taxi. A private transfer stops at your door.
Waiting. A shared vehicle waits for other flights and stops at other resorts. A private driver tracks your flight and leaves when you are ready.
Skis and bags. On the coach service we checked, a suitcase plus a ski bag counts as two items and the second one is charged. With us, skis and bags are included.
Small children and pets. The coach service we checked does not carry children under four from Geneva and does not take animals. We carry both, and child seats are available on request – tell us the child’s age when you book.

So which one should you book?

One or two people, arriving on a Saturday: the coach is cheaper. Book it early and travel light.
Four or more, any weekday: a private vehicle costs about the same per head and is quicker and easier.
Six to eight people: private is cheaper per head than the coach on weekdays, before you count the taxi at the other end.
Families with small children, a dog, or a late flight: private, whatever the group size.
