From the Cluses exit the D106 turns off and climbs the hillside above the valley through Arâches-la-Frasse to Les Carroz-d’Arâches, carrying on beyond the village towards Flaine. It is a single mountain road serving the whole plateau, so a slow vehicle ahead sets the pace for everyone behind it.
Cluses is where the fast road ends and the mountain section begins. The climb from there up to Les Carroz takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on conditions — a winding ascent that gains altitude the whole way, and the part of the journey where knowing the road actually matters.
