From there the road runs on to Le Fayet and climbs the D902 through Saint-Gervais-les-Bains into the Montjoie valley, which takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on conditions — a winding ascent that gains altitude the whole way, and the part of the journey where knowing the road actually matters.
